My glowing baby

We have spent the week taking Elody to the local lab to get a blood draw and then to the PA to decide what action to take next to get her bilirubin count down. The count continued to climb until yesterday when it finally went down into the low risk section. We have been seeing the Physician's Assistant all week and finally yesterday my doctor, Dr Dave Grygla (Matt's 1st cousin), finally was back to work. At our appointment yesterday (Friday), the PA was there first and he wanted me to keep her on the lights for the weekend and take her into the nearby city (30 minutes away) to the lab at the hospital on Sunday. We told him that we have had enough of this and that she is fine, she's out of the risk zone. He still argued his position until Dave finally came in. The PA told him the situation, his position and mine, and then Dave said, "You can tell her what you want, but she is going to do what she wants to do." With that, the PA walked out. Dave said that she is fine and not to worry about it anymore. Dave respects us and trusts us to do what's best for her. I will still take her out into the sun for a few minutes a day until all the yellow color is gone. I had to give her formula as a supplement until today now that my milk has evened out. It is hard for her to get out the colostrum and then the milk when I go through the engorgement stage.

I love this little outfit on my little girls. It is a preemie size so they only get to wear it once or twice the first couple of weeks.

So much to worry about. I have also had to feed my baby formula a lot because of serious trauma caused by baby jaws and tongue of steel. Ouch! I am pumping like crazy and hope to try nursing again tomorrow. Hope all goes more smoothly for you as well.

i've had to do sun treatments with all my babies. it always works out just fine. sometimes the dr.s get a little over anxious.
